It’s not difficult to see beauty when you’re looking for it. AND I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR BEAUTY.

I stepped out my front door this morning with my camera, wondering what I might see today. Immediately I noticed the purple petunias blooming in my hanging basket of flowers.

A Little Bit of Front Yard Beauty

We planted a Koren lilac tree in the middle of the yard after a lightening strike killed the Acer Maple that used to shade our front door. Now it is in full beautiful bloom. I’ve seen swallowtail butterflies fluttering among its flowers. The flowers are so sweet-scented. I love standing under the tree (yes it’s now tall enough that I can stand upright under it’s branches) and looking up at the sky through its leaves and flowers.

Several years ago I dug up a variegated hosta plant from the backyard and moved it to the flower beds in front of the house. Unfortunately it has almost outgrown its spot but I love the colors and textures of its leaves.

Surprisingly the jack-in-the-pulpit plant that I bought at a local nursery and planted in a shaded corner of my flower beds is thriving beyond my greatest expectations. I think this is the third or fourth year it’s been growing here and this is the first summer that I’ve come to believe that not only will it survive here but it will thrive in it’s hidden spot shaded by the yews.

It’s like a tiny secret garden and I smile every time I notice it. I had to bend down and move a few yew branches to see it’s flower and most people walk by without even noticing it.

Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.”

What beauty do you notice in your own front yard?

May you walk in beauty.
