Does creating matter to you? Have you told yourself that you will take the time to make art and then you simply don’t do it?

Maybe it’s time to

Set An Art Trap

“I decided to turn my table into what I’m calling an ‘art trap’.” —Elizabeth Gilbert, author

Create your own creativity corner and fill it with art supplies (or writing supplies or whatever you need for your creative pursuits) that you never put away. Then when inspiration strikes or you walk by your creativity corner for the gazillionth time, maybe you’ll be inspired to sit down and create something.

“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

The photo above shows my art trap. To make room for my art trap I pulled out an extra leaf on the dining room table and I leave my watercolor painting supplies on the end of the table. This art trap reminds me that painting matters to me. And while I don’t sit down to paint every day I do sit down more frequently than I would if I had to locate and set up all my art supplies every time I want to paint.

“We are all just beginners here, and we shall all die beginners.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

Right now, if you’re following social distancing guidelines you’re not having a lot of people coming over to your house so you can make a space for your creative corner out in the open where you’ll be sure to see it often. Why not set an art trap for yourself?

May you walk in beauty.
