Hello Dear Ones.
Today, on Mother’s Day, I’m thinking about all the women I know who are not mothers. Though they have no children of their own, they bring a strong healing mothering energy into the world. They practice mothering. There are also men who practice mothering. In my mind mothering is a skill anyone can practice. Loving in this way is what the world needs more of.
All women and men can practice mothering. They can tend and befriend and help take care of people, animals, plants, and the earth. In fact, I believe some of the best mothering is being practiced by those who do not bear children.
I have a dear friend who is childless, not by choice, and she is one of the wisest, most compassionate teachers I’ve ever met. She connects with children in a way that I (the mother of two daughters) cannot.
On Mother’s Day I choose to recognize those among us who tend and befriend, care for others and for our earth. It seems to me that what the world needs now is
More mothering,
More tend and befriend
of the earth and all beings.
This morning I spent my meditation time listening to a meditation led by Jack Kornfield, called “Worldwide Healing of Love” (available on the Insight Timer app). The loving-kindness words he shared were:
May your spirit be strong.
May you be safe and protected.
May you be filled with deep healing and goodness.
May you be held by love.
— Jack Kornfield, Worldwide Healing Love
These were words I needed to experience and take into my heart today. I also needed to send their energy out into the world to all those I love and to those who are suffering.
May our spirits be strong.
May we be safe and protected.
May we be filled with deep healing and goodness.
May we be held by love.
Let us create a beautiful, visionary, peaceful, compassionate world. Let our actions and thoughts come from a deep place of love, compassion, connection, and care. This is who we are and this is what we can become all together.
— Jack Kornfield, Worldwide Healing Love
What the world needs now is more mothering, more tend and befriend.
Sending light and love to all who are struggling, all who are suffering, and all who are grieving. May you be held by love.
May you walk in beauty.
