Some people are sad on overcast days. Not me! I celebrate the beautiful filtered light the clouds bring. Just before the rain started I put my Canon 100-400 mm lens and 1.4 extender on my camera and went out photograph some of the crab apple trees that are nearby.

Crab Apple Blossoms

First I headed across the street to the park path flanked by 2 beautiful white blossomed trees. Hand-holding this heavy long lens is tricky but I experimented with several stances and found a way to stand feet planted a little wider than usual and knees slightly bent. I love using the telephoto lens because of the beautiful separation I get foreground to background.

Then I headed over to the side of our lawn to photograph our next door neighbor’s deep rose colored crab apple tree. I hope that some of the blossoms will still be beautiful after the rain ends tonight.

Here is a poem by Basho (about cherry blossoms) that conjures up some of the feelings this beautiful blossom time of year brings to me.

A cloud of cherry blossoms;
The temple bell,-
Is it Ueno, is it Asakusa?

How many, many things
They call to mind
These cherry-blossoms!

Very brief –
Gleam of blossoms in the treetops
On a moonlit night.

A lovely spring night
suddenly vanished while we
viewed cherry blossoms

Some Resources I’ve enjoyed recently

One of my favorite energy medicine teachers, Donna Eden, has an interview with Sounds True Founder, Tami Simon. Here’s a link to Donna Eden’s Conversation with Tami.

Another resource that I’ve been listening to this week are some of the speakers of the Global Resilience Summit. The speakers that I’ve enjoyed most are:

Psychologist and originator of Polyvagal Theory, Stephen Porges, Relational Healing & Healing Trauma (scroll down to find this talk) and Dr. Dan Siegel, on neuronal regulation (use link for Stephen Porges and scroll down to find his talk). Note that I’m not sure how long this link will work. The Global Resilience Summit is almost over and will probably remove free access to these talks in 2-3 days.

On this cool rainy day I hope you find ways to nourish yourself as the earth is being nourished by the gentle rainfall.

May you walk in beauty.
