Today I thought I would share some

Sunday Morning Grace

with you.

I made the photos in today’s post several years ago and recently saw them again when I was reviewing some of my older photos. I re-edited the photos and found that despite some movement blur, they still made my heart soar. The grace of these birds always astonishes me.

Whenever I see a bird spreading it’s wings or a group of birds soaring together overhead my heart soars with them. Though I don’t consider myself a birder, I have found that watching birds in nature brings me great joy. I came upon this great egret standing at the edge of a marshy pond that lies across the street and down the hill from our house.

When it took to the air my heart took off with it.

Such Joy!

Annie Dillard speaks beautifully about how the beauty and grace of birds lifts me…

“I had been my whole life a bell, and never knew it until at that moment I was lifted and struck.”
Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek

As I stood and photographed the egret, it decided to put more distance between us. It spread it’s graceful wings wide and thrust itself into to the air. The actual take-off wasn’t very graceful. But as soon as it started soaring—such beauty and grace! I felt as if I was soaring along with the beautiful egret.

What brings you great joy and lifts your heart?

May you walk in beauty.

Great Egret at the edge of a marshy pond

“I pray to the birds because they remind me of what I love rather than what I fear. And at the end of my prayers, they teach me how to listen.”
Terry Tempest Williams, Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place

If you look carefully you can see long feathery plumes growing from the great egret’s back. These plumes, called aigrettes are used during courtship displays.
