I have been going through some of the first photographs I made when I really fell in love with photography (about 2010). It’s been fun seeing how I’ve grown and changed as a photographer. And it’s also been fun to see photos I made then that I really like.
I made the photo above in November of 2011 in our backyard. I love Minnesota’s little red squirrels. And I miss seeing them as climate change has made their numbers fewer.
“To A Squirrel At Kyle-Na-No
Come play with me;
Why should you run
Through the shaking tree
As though I’d a gun
To strike you dead?
When all I would do
Is to scratch your head
And let you go.”

Here’s another of my older photos that features a red squirrel. I made it at the Gooseberry Falls State Park Rest Area. I loved how the three children were absolutely fascinated with watching the squirrel through the window.
And a few from my time in near Ely, MN in 2017. There were so many squirrels outside the cabin where I stayed. They spent as much time chasing one another away from the sunflower seeds that I scattered for the birds as they did eating and gathering seeds.
“The squirrels, leaping joyfully from branch to branch: not a single one doubts its existence.”

May you walk in beauty.
