When I looked out my window this morning the rain made it difficult to see the tree across the pond. I was so taken with the view that I had a hard time sitting for my morning meditation. In fact, when monkey mind kept me coming back to the desire to photograph what I saw, I finally gave up and ended my meditation early.
“Set wide the window. Let me drink the day.”

The View From My Window
I picked up my camera and headed to a window. The morning light was so low for the first photograph I took that the exposure was longer than I could hold the camera still. Since I often use camera movement deliberately in my work I decided to play with the blurry photo to see if I could use it to express how the morning felt to me.
“I can sit alone by an open window for hours if I like, and hear only bird songs, and the rustle of leaves. The trees are pure gold and orange,”

The image you see above is that expression of my feelings today about rainy days in the fall.
Soon after making the image above I began looking further and noticed that the bright colored trees in the neighborhood had not been dulled by the gray skies and rain. If anything their colors seemed more vivid than usual.
I became so engrossed in making photographs through my windows and then editing them that I forgot to eat breakfast. It was 11:00 AM before I noticed the time and the fact that I was feeling hungry. I love it when creating puts me into a flow state and time evaporates. Does that ever happen to you?
“It is when we act freely, for the sake of the action itself rather than for ulterior motives, that we learn to become more than what we were. When we choose a goal and invest ourselves in it to the limits of concentration, whatever we do will be enjoyable. And once we have tasted this joy, we will redouble our efforts to taste it again. This is the way the self grows.”

Here are some more photos through my windows this morning.
May you walk in beauty.
