Life is full of fleeting moments. The photo above makes me feel like I’m feeling about summer — I cannot believe that it is the middle of August already. I savor each moment of sunshine, fresh summer breezes, open window weather, a glorious green landscape, and late summer flowers. The beauty of it all fills me with gratitude and wonder.
Fleeting Moments
As August flies by I am continuing to focus on being mindful of each fleeting moment in all its glory. From savoring soft breezes on my skin to watching fluffy white clouds floating in the blue sky, the simple beauty of nature nourishes me.
The words I’ve been photographing this week for my August mindfulness challenge are Shadow, Soft, Reflection, and Truth. Some words are easier than others to generate ideas for. On days that are full of activities, taking the time to think about and make a photograph is challenging.
Shadow
I made this photograph at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. It is an art installation that is a little off the beaten path. I love the way the trees and leaves create shadow shapes that change as the daylight shifts.
If you look closely at this photograph, you can see a shadow of me holding the camera in the center of this image. I love this “self-portrait” of myself.
Soft
This week I have noticed soft puffy clouds filling the skies. This image is a “tiny planets” manipulation of the cloud-filled sky.
The body of this bumble bee looks so soft to me. If you look closely you can see tiny bits of pollen sticking to its legs.
The tail of this little chipmunk looks soft and fluffy. I was amazed at how close it let me get to make this photo. It was very busy having a mid-morning snack.
Reflection
The light coming in the windows beside and behind me created interesting reflection on my laptop computer as I listened to a watercolor painting class session.
Truth
This is me just as I am standing in my office this morning.
For those of you wondering how I’m doing in my recovery from hip replacement surgery, the answer is GREAT! I’m walking without a cane or walker all of the time now. My life is feeling like it’s returning to normal. We’ve moved furniture back in the master bedroom and I’m doing more and more independently for myself. I’ve been going out with my camera for 15-30 minutes at a time, cooking meals again, doing some cleaning around the house, and getting out and about by myself.
May you walk in beauty.
