Look closely and you will see a pair of wood ducks camouflaged in the weeds. This pair has been swimming in the parts of the pond that are open and checking out the neighborhood all morning.

(I made all of the photos in this post from my living room window using a Canon 100-400 mm lens.)

It’s happening!

Spring is arriving slowly but surely. The part of the pond that our neighbor kept cleared of snow as an ice rink is now open water!  Wood ducks and geese are exploring the area.

The grass is beginning to show shades of green. Rain fell gently for part of the morning. Despite cloudy skies and rain I am filled with joy by seeing a pair of geese and a pair of wood ducks in and around the pond.

Last week there was a pileated woodpecker spending time in the back yard. The next day I saw a mink running across a street and through a yard near where I live. What a beautiful animal!

Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind.

Wild creatures share our suburban landscape and enrich our lives with their presence. One of the things I love best about living in the Minneapolis area is the presence of wild beauty and nature almost everywhere I look. There are so many trees, lakes, streams and marshes. One can experience the wild almost everywhere.

Life is ever turning, ever changing. How can one watch the turning of the seasons and the wild creatures who thrive all around us without sensing the ineffable presence of God?

Spring is happening. I hope you have the time to get outside and enjoy seeing the world waking up again from a long winter’s sleep. Savor every moment!

“The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.”

May you walk in beauty.
