Last week I picked up a small bunch of red gerbera daisies to enjoy and to photograph. Over the course of the week almost every day I saw something different that I wanted to photograph. Sometimes it was the way a stem drooped over in a graceful curve. Other times it was the simple beauty of a blossom up close.
The gerberas are fading now as all flowers do. And I am still finding beauty in them. They illustrate the life process up close and personal. We’re born, grow up and blossom, and eventually fade away and die. And then something new is born.
By observing the cycles of nature closely and recognizing that I am a part of nature the idea of dying becomes more familiar and less frightening. Realizing that everything is impermanent makes me treasure each moment even more. The older I get the more I count my blessings. Every moment is a gift. Even though I am no longer the young woman I once was, I carry with me all my experiences, all my learning, and all of the beauty that surrounds me each and every day.
“Birth and Death are words we chose to describe the doorways in and out of a cycle. This cycle is connected to a larger cycle which awaits our return. It is all just like breathing. Remove the fear and judgement to recognize the same pattern as a principle everywhere.”

A friend shared a lovely video about Minneapolis area photographer and blogger, Mary Jo Hoffman this week. I loved seeing it and looking at the photographs on her blog.
You can see the video here and find her blog here.
May you walk in beauty.
