And the prompt today for December Reflections 2018 is Biggest Surprise in 2018. Ha! I just realized that I had transformed Biggest Surprise of 2018 to Best Surprise of 2018 in my mind. Actually, as I think about it this surprise was probably both the biggest and the best.

Return of the Monarch Butterfly

I saw so many more monarchs this year than during the past few years! It made me so happy to see that the hard work of many people is starting to make a difference for these beautiful and amazing creatures.

We need to continue to create habitat that supports wildlife of all kinds. What a sad thing it would be if our grandchildren or great-grandchildren never got to enjoy seeing monarch butterflies.

In late August I got to see monarch butterflies gathering for their long migration south. It was such a wonder-filled day. The return of the monarch butterfly is one small signpost of hope in a long journey of healing the earth.

May you walk in beauty.
