up and running

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted on my blog. I had an unexpected glitch with my website and couldn’t login to update or add new posts to my site, probably because of a failed automatic update made by WordPress.

I fixed the login problem with my website after poking around and trying various behind-the-scenes updates using FTP to connect with my website server directly.

It was dumb luck that I stumbled upon a sequence of actions that fixed the problem.

Hurrah!

It makes me so happy to be able to post in my blog again.

And it felt darn good to be able to muddle through and fix the issue without fully understanding the cause.

I think much of life is about muddling through things we don’t fully understand.

Initially I was afraid to muck around very much for fear of breaking things even more than they were already broken. It wasn’t until I asked myself, “What’s the worst that can happen?” and made peace with the idea of starting my website over from scratch, losing all of my old blog posts and doing a complete redesign from the ground up.

“If you want to live your life in a creative way, as an artist, you have to not look back too much. You have to be willing to take whatever you’ve done and whoever you were and throw them away.” — Steve Jobs

Once I realized that I had nothing to lose, I lost my fear of failure and began experimenting. This kind of “nothing to lose” attitude is helpful in all sorts of creative activities. It’s the way we learn.

Now that I am able to use my website again I decided to do a redesign that reflects the changes I am making in my business and life.

My goals for the redesign are simplicity and beauty. I want to focus on my art and spend less time fiddling with non-essential details.

I’ve begun the redesign process and I’m in the middle of it now. Please be patient if strange things happen in the next few weeks.

May you walk in beauty.
