Today on a cloudy cold winter’s day I needed to experience some brightness and color. I went to one of my favorite places.
It’s My Perfect Winter Prescription…
The Tonkawood Greenhouse in Minnetonka, MN. This large beautiful greenhouse is one of my favorite places any time of year, but in the winter-time I go there for no reason, other than to walk among the plants and soak up the sights and smells of green things growing.
“Who loves a garden loves a greenhouse too.” — William Cowper
The beauty of it all nourishes my spirit like water, soil and sunlight nourish plants.
When snow covers the ground and the wind is sharp and cold I don’t go outside to make many photographs. But I visit the greenhouse, bringing along my camera and wandering the aisles soaking in the beauty and making photos to my heart’s content.
“Stay close to anything that makes you glad you are alive.”
― Hāfez
Another of my favorite winter spots is the Como Conservatory in St. Paul, a wonderful place to raise winter spirits surrounded by the beauty and wonder of nature.
What is your favorite winter prescription? What makes you glad you are alive?
May you walk in beauty.
