Yesterday was the first sunny day in several days. It was so beautiful that I took a drive north to Zimmerman to photograph the famous sinking barn.
For those of you not familiar with the sinking barn, it is located beside a pond whose water level has been steadily rising. In the summertime it’s a popular photographer’s stop as the reflection of the barn in the pond is beautiful.
Photographers often wonder just how long the barn will remain standing.
No doubt countless photographs have been made of this barn. When I arrived there was another photographer who had parked on the side of the road making photographs of the barn.
Simple Beauty
I found the winter view of the barn very pretty. We got there during the golden hour so the sun was low in the south-western sky, giving a warm glow to the barn and the trees behind it.
It looked suprisingly small and unassuming when I first got out to look at it. But through the lens of the camera, it became a focal point that lit up the frame. I like the way the red of the barn pops amongst all the white. I love the trees behind it, the smooth white snow in front of it, and the weeds in the foreground.
“We must actively, consciously, consistently, and creatively nurture our artist selves.”

Simple magic revealing the beauty that surrounds us every day.
It was a simple outing and I took fewer than a dozen photos, but it fed my soul to be out with my camera, even for a short time. It was my own personal artists’ date a-la Julia Cameron (The Artist’s Way).
When was the last time you took time out for a little creative fun?
May you walk in beauty.
