This time of year when the gray and brown landscape begins to green up in Minnesota is my favorite time of year. The fresh spring green color is fleeting, but oh, so inviting. Today, with a bright overcast sky, the green appears to glow. Soon it will turn to summer’s more sedate greens. But now, all of the leaves are emerging fresh and unblemished for a new season.
“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.”
— Ranier Maria Rilke
In our lives we experience seasons within seasons. There are the yearly seasonal changes that occur around us in nature, the natural life-span seasons as one is born, becomes a child, adolescent, young adult, mature adult, and older adult, and the seasons of the soul. Sometimes we experience great joy, at other times great sorrow and loss. The cycles of life repeat itself themselves in an ever-turning circle.
“Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”
— Pedro Calderon de la Barca
Springtime reaffirms the knowledge of the soul, that after the cold winter of death comes a new spring and new life. May this season of new life bring you joy.
May you walk in beauty.
