“Life was small but good.”
― Francesca Lia Block, House of Dolls
“He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
― St. Francis of Assisi
I photographed this tiny house built from salvaged materials 2 years ago when I visited a small organic farm on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Living simply on a small organic farm does not mean life is easy.
It’s hard work growing food in paradise—building up soil fertility, making sure all the nutrients don’t wash away in the rain forest climate, keeping persistent weeds from invading the garden, dealing with pests like slugs.
Still there is a certain grace to working with your hands, head, and heart here or anywhere.
Here are a few bonus photos of the week—more views of this tiny house.
