We spent 3 days in northern Minnesota this week, vacationing and making photographs. We went to some old familiar places and also took in some new sights on this trip.
I love the sights, sounds, scents, and feelings that the north woods evoke.
“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
― Maya Angelou, All God’s Children Need Traveling Shoes
This is the place my soul calls home
The north woods are both a touchstone and anchor for my soul. The first time I traveled to northern Minnesota, I felt like I had come home. There is something about the wildness, the rocky soil, and the plants and animals that thrive there, that touches my heart deeply.
The weather during our trip was perfect—cool, but not too cool; mostly sunny, but obligingly giving us clouds to add interest to the sky and softening the shadows, and creating a perfect light—for capturing a little of the beauty of the north shore of Lake Superior.
“Nature is not a place to visit. It is home.” ― Gary Snyder
Is there a place that makes you feel like your soul has come home? When was the last time you went there?
May you walk in beauty.
