Endless beauty can be found in this world of ours. Of course sometimes the beauty is easy to see and other times one needs to look through eyes “graced with wonder.”
“When our eyes are graced with wonder, the world reveals its wonders to us. There are people who see only dullness in the world and that is because their eyes have already been dulled. So much depends on how we look at things. The quality of our looking determines what we come to see.”
― John O’Donohue, Beauty: The Invisible Embrace
North shore beauty can be felt, heard and smelled as well as being seen. It fills you up and creates a wondrous sense of grandeur. Though the lake shore and falls are wonderful, I love the forest land around the Gunflint Trail or along Highway 1 which runs from the shore of Lake Superior up to Ely.
The lichens on the rocks, tiny bunchberry plants, and wondrous evergreen trees that cling to the rocks and make paths through the rocks show the power of plants to survive and even thrive in challenging environments.
What is the quality of your looking?
Why not take some time today to look through eyes “graced with wonder.”
May you walk in beauty.
