Quote of the day: “You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That’s the only thing you should be trying to control.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
My current favorite mantra is Present Moment Positive. It’s a phrase I repeat to myself whenever I notice that I am worrying or feeling like I’m not enough or my present circumstances are not what I want.
With my health I notice myself often dwelling on how to fix things, whether through my own efforts or by seeing a new medical practitioner or trying some new “miracle” supplement, food, medication, or exercise program.
It’s easy to get seduced into thinking that something or someone or some way of being different than what I am will fix things or make things better. But my body reminds me again and again (sometimes gently and sometimes not so gently) that healing does not come from somewhere out there. It begins with my thoughts.
Thinking or saying, “Present Moment Positive” reminds me to let go of any worry, expectation, clinging, wanting, wishing, or aversion and focus myself in the present moment. I compassionately notice my surface thoughts and desires while learning to listen to a deeper truth that comes from my heart and soul. That truth is that I have all I need, I am more powerful than I believe, and now, this moment, is all there is.
What are your heart and soul saying to you today?
May you walk in beauty.
