Quote of the day: “Being creative is about creating. It’s about doing. And so too is living, because life is an act of creation. Day by day, whatever else we make, our first act of creation is our own lives. We must first make the artist before we make the art.” — David duChemin, A Beautiful Anarchy: When the Life Creative Becomes the Life Created
One of my favorite photographer/writers just released a new book:
Because I’ve enjoyed so many of his books in both print and electronic format, I bought a copy for my Kindle today and dove into the book this morning while eating breakfast.
It came as no surprise to me that it’s full of David’s unique “color outside the lines” philosophy. I am enjoying it. If you think you’re not creative or you’re not meant to live a creative life, I encourage you to read this book.
You can download a sample of the book HERE.
Creating a Life
After years of working in a “secure” corporate job, I decided not to return to that life after a job layoff 3 years ago. Instead, I chose to pursue photography because it lights me up inside to make photos.
I still wrestle with urges to try to create a business or life that is based upon ideas of how one should do it instead of what brings me joy.
Books and articles from people like David duChemin help me to step back from old reactions and mindless days into a moment by moment intentional creation of my life.
Finding people who have lived artful, unique lives also inspires me. Look around and see what inspires you to live from the inside out.

That sweet bird is a cutie!! Indeed, we are creating our life as we live it, which means that we have a hand in creating the world.
