Quote of the day:
“Earth’s crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God,
But only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round and pluck blackberries.”— Elizabeth Barrett Browning
When I got up this morning and looked out the dining room window at the pond, I noticed this arch of willow leaves surrounding the still watercolor-like reflections in the pond. I couldn’t resist grabbing my camera to make a photo of it.
As soon as I zoomed the lens out a bit I noticed a male wood duck who was creating ripples with his movement—another photo op.
I look at this pond every day in all kinds of light and never tire of what I see there. Because of our weekend rains, the water looks clear and clean today but with the sunshine today I’m sure it will start looking scummy and more like the big petri dish that it is—teaming with life.
Last week a snapping turtle made several attempts at digging a nest in the rocks beside our driveway. But it appears that she gave up. The dirt underneath was just too packed and hard.
We are surrounded by creatures large and small that live their lives almost invisibly all around us. Take some moments to pay attention to all of earth’s creatures, wonders, and beauty and you’ll agree with Elizabeth Browning—”Earth’s crammed with heaven…”
Last week I created over a dozen new photos for greeting cards. After weeding out efforts that weren’t quite what I wanted, I ended up with 5 that I like. Here they are. I will be adding these to my Etsy shop soon.
May you walk in beauty.
