Quote of the day: “The day is coming when a single carrot freshly observed, will set off a revoluation.” — Paul Cezanne
Small moments in time.
Stories without words.
Slices of life.
I like to look at ordinary scenes and objects and see their beauty. It’s a zen kind of thing.
Noticing what is—being open and present
When I visit my friends’ houses I love capturing small still life photographs that tell a story about my friends. Each story is unique and open to interpretation.
Sometimes I make photographs in my own home, telling stories of light, stillness, beauty and grace found in unexpected places.
Once, when I couldn’t do a lot of walking without pain, I challenged myself to make at least 25 photographs each day in my house for 40 straight days.
At first, I made quick, obligatory photos, thinking, “this isn’t working.” But soon, I found that limiting myself in this way caused me to look deeper and see things and think in new ways.
I found myself jumping out of bed in the morning, grabbing my camera and making photos before I even stopped to dress or have breakfast. It became common to see me wandering around the house in my night gown, camera in hand.
Each day became an exciting adventure
If you want to make photographs you don’t need to travel to exotic locales, get up at the break of day, or hike miles into the back woods. You can find beauty and meaning in everyday life.
Try my photo challenge — make at least 25 photos each day for 40 days straight in your home.
You will learn more than you can imagine about your photography and yourself.
