Quote of the day: “Fenugreek, Tuesday’s spice, when the air is green like mosses after rain.”

when the air is green

Evening view from my window (photo taken through window screen with iPhone)

Green, everywhere green. Leaves are bursting out so fast, it seems the air is green, that bright, fresh, yellow-green that signifies new life.

Yesterday I planted my little “pot garden” with lettuces, radishes, parsley, pepper, and tomato.  If I’m lucky I will have a few weeks of lovely salads followed by a full summer of parsley, peppers, and cherry tomatoes.

Looking at the seeds in my hand before I planted them, I marveled that life was contained in these tiny oh so effective packages. Given moisture, soil, and light, they grow and thrive. Keep them cool and dry and they sit dormant, looking dead, but containing the spark of life. That’s another ordinary miracle.
