Quotes of the day:
“A waiting person is a patient person. The word patience means the willingness to stay where we are and live the situation out to the full in the belief that something hidden there will manifest itself to us.”
― Henri J.M. Nouwen“Why is patience so important?”
“Because it makes us pay attention.”

On Patience and Waiting
Today, we woke to a fresh coating of snow in Minneapolis. Part of me wants to complain and scream out loud, “Enough already! It’s April and I want to see some spring around here.”
But the beauty of the day, silenced my protests. And memories of Akiko in Hawaii greeting whatever the weather was every day with complete acceptance and joy, caused me to let go of my frustration and embrace what is.
The photo above speaks deeply to me of the patience of the trees, grass, and other living things, and the patience of a gardener waiting for spring. Nothing to do in the garden now. Nothing to do but wait. Beauty is here now. Experience it.
I am waiting for spring—patiently—in the sense of being willing to stay where I am and live the situation out fully. I see the beauty all around me. I feel the season turning even though it looks like winter outside.
What in your life is calling you to be patient and wait?
