Quote of the day: “When our eyes are graced with wonder, the world reveals its wonders to us. There are people who see only dullness in the world and that is because their eyes have already been dulled. So much depends on how we look at things. The quality of our looking determines what we come to see.” ― John O’Donohue, Beauty: The Invisible Embrace
I went for a walk on a gray, gloomy day and brought my camera with me “just in case.” And instead of the gray, gloomy world I expected I found beauty everywhere I looked.
Most of the beauty I saw wasn’t the flash of bright early autumn colors, although there are still pockets of bright color here and there. A lot of little things caught my eye. There were quiet, peaceful scenes even on a windy, cloudy fall day.
One of the things I’ve learned from becoming a photographer is to simply look around and take in the beauty that is all around us. Every fall I feel sad to see the season of green growing things end and the long gray months begin. But even then, there is beauty.
Practice seeing beauty. Bring a camera with you and look through the lens at different parts of the landscape. You too, will start seeing beauty everywhere.
