Quote of the day: “We have come into this exquisite world to experience ever and ever more deeply our divine courage, freedom and light!” ― حافظ (Hafiz)
The first week of September has already flown by. I know it’s been said before by many, but where does the time go? I love reviewing my gratitude list at the end of each week. It reminds me of all the lovely ordinary miracles that I meet every day.
I am full of gratitude for so many ordinary moments when the beauty of life shines through. Here are just a few of my favorites from the past week.
- Most of all I am grateful for courageous friends who inspire me to live with more courage in my life. Each step any of us take to live a more authentic life and live more courageously, lights the way for others. May my steps give just little light for others to follow.
- On the night of the full moon (8-31-12) I got to attend and photograph a fire ceremony. It was both beautiful and moving. To top it off, I saw the full moon rising through the trees while watching the ceremony and listening to the drumming and chanting. It was one of those perfect nights that I will remember forever.
- I’ve played, played, played with my new iPhone camera and just a few of the many free apps available for photography. I also found an amazing web-site iPhone art website. You can see it HERE. There is so much amazing art being created with iPhones. I was stunned by the amount and the quality of the art on this site.
- Saturday, my daughter and I went kayaking in Minneapolis on the chain of lakes. We started in Lake Calhoun, and traveled through Lake of the Isles and finally over to Cedar Lake. It was the first time I’ve been out in a kayak in several years. The breeze in my face felt so fine. And the beauty and wonder of the day filled me with joy. I didn’t take any photos from the kayak but the photo below of the grasses blowing reminds me of the wind in my face.
- Yesterday I found this critter on my pole beans. Normally I would have just wanted to get rid of it so that it was no longer eating my bean leaves. But I took one look and knew I had to make some macro pictures of this guy. He looks like something out of a science fiction novel. But it’s just a locust. After viewing this guy up close and personal while making photos, I couldn’t shoo him away. This morning I saw that he’s still munching on my bean leaves. And looking closely at him still fills me with awe.
- I was sitting outside at the Landscape Arboretum with 2 friends when I saw this acorn cap. The beauty of the colors, design, and texture blew me away. Another ordinary miracle that would be so easy to overlook.
- My best friend turned the camera on me this week so that I could experience what it feels like to be photographed in a portrait session. (Notice how dressed up I got for my portraits? 🙂 It was very enlightening to experience all the stuff I have witnessed when I photograph women. While I see them as totally beautiful, they see nothing but the things they don’t like about how they look. Ditto for me when I downloaded the photos from our portrait session. It was very hard to edit them and not want to delete them all immediately. And I’m working on seeing my beauty and being kinder to myself as well as coming up with ways to help other women see their own beauty.
- Impromptu Art created out of nature’s bounty. Isn’t life grand?
- Critter sculpture at MN Landscape Arboretum reminds me of my locust buddy that I photographed this week also.
- A friend of mine took me to the ornamental grass section of the Landscape Arboretum and talked about how beautiful and healing she found the grasses that grew there. I was so taken with the beauty and elegance of the different grasses. They really are quite amazing.
