Quote of the day: “Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” — Albert Einstein

Prairie Sky

While driving down to Kansas City this week the sky was overcast and threatening.  We took a detour off the interstate to follow a country highway in Missouri for a while so that I could say, “Stop here! I want to make a photo of this,” to my ever-patient husband Jon. Jon would stop the car, I would jump out of the car with my camera and make many shots of sky and land.

Jon was mystified with what I was seeing. To him it was just boring countryside, while I saw beauty everywhere I looked. I love the wide open spaces where land meets sky. I love the play of light and clouds and color in the sky. I love the stark beauty of dilapidated farm buildings against the horizon. I love gazing at the colors and patterns of farm fields and hay bales and the contour of the land.
