Quote of the day: “One does not need buildings, money, power, or status to practice the Art of Peace. Heaven is right where you are standing, and that is the place to train.” —Morihei Ueshiba

Knitted Peace on tree at Lyndale Peace Park

Have you ever seen people screaming “Peace,” with faces full of violence? I have always been perplexed by people who shout peace but carry anger or hatred in their hearts. I believe that the most important thing I can do to bring peace is to cultivate peace within myself. I cannot control the world but I can cultivate my own garden of peace and perform acts of kindness and compassion. My work for peace is not noisy or flashy. It’s quiet and hidden in the depths of my heart. I cannot say that I am full of peace every minute. Cultivating peace is a practice that will continue throughout my life. How about you? Do you cultivate peace in your heart?

May you be happy, may you be healthy, may you experience peace.

Afternote: I’ve been sick for several days. I can’t remember when I’ve felt so crappy. I wrote this post earlier this week and realized that coincidentally, this illness has been a wonderful opportunity to practice the art of peace. I can be at peace and accept being where I am, feeling as I do. Or I can be unhappy or rail at feeling bad, at plans that I made and cannot keep. I am at peace. Heaven is where I am right now.
