“Beauty is not a deadener but a quickener and it alerts and awakens our heart to what is true and good and unified.

The experience of beauty is like a homecoming. When we feel and see and touch the beautiful we feel that we are at one with ourselves because in some subtle and secret way beauty meets the needs of the soul.

John O’Donohue Beauty: The Invisible Miracle

Dandelions in Park Area Next to Where We Live

When our youngest daughter was three, we had her favorite playmate, Brian, over to our house to play one fine spring day. We had just moved to a new house and our upward sloping backyard was carpeted with dandelions in bloom. Wide-eyed and full of joy, Brian took one look at our weed-filled yard and exclaimed, “You have the most bee-autiful yard I’ve ever seen!”

Zing! My eyes were opened to the beauty that was right in front of me. Part of me knew that they were “just weeds,” but I actually saw the bright, cheerful beauty of the dandelions, instead of judging them or dismissing them.

Now that I am older, I choose to see beauty everywhere I look and I am never disappointed. This brings me great joy.

The choice to see beauty is ours to make every day. What beauty have you been missing in your life?
