Quote of the day: “I call for a collective adventure in generalized joy and freely interdependent exuberance.” —Bob Black

Trolley

Sunday was cloudy and threatening rain most of the day. A friend and I decided to go to a movie in the afternoon, but discovered no parking places available anywhere near the theater, Instead of seeing the movie we decided to drive around Lake Harriet. We came upon the Linden Hills Trolley Car and decided to stop and take a ride.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul once had a thriving trolley system. You could ride the trolley all the way to Stillwater in the east and out to Lake Minnetonka in the west. But the trolleys were eventually replaced with buses and now the only trolley rides available are at little tourist spots like the Linden Hills Trolley.

It was a beautiful day for a ride, with green trees on either side of the trolley. The trolley car we rode in was built in 1908. The interior of the trolley was pristine and so beautiful. Lovely wood trim surrounded the windows and the partitions. The seats were a kind of woven wicker coated with paint. We don’t build things like this anymore.

Sometimes simple little adventures are very satisfying. This one was.
