doing the work

Diversity (I tried several new techniques on this photo – it probably should be titled Exploration instead of Diversity)

A week ago I wrote about a 15-day challenge online class I’m taking. Today is Day 12 of 15 and the fun is starting to fade as the pressures of daily life intrude on my creative work.Today’s topic is totally in line with what I’m feeling—pressure.

Yesterday our washing machine malfunctioned and flooded our downstairs laundry room, the hallway outside it and part of my studio. We’ve been working to dry out the carpets, find and buy and a new washing machine, and assess whether the carpet downstairs will survive or have to be replaced.

So it’s with mixed feelings that I approach today’s topic of pressure. I’m staying calm through all of the challenges and my enthusiasm for doing the work is undimmed. I’m off to think about and work on today’s topic—pressure—and what I want to create.

“We must do our work for its own sake, not for fortune or attention or applause.”
Steven Pressfield, The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles

I’ve learned so much about how I think, work, and create through this class. And I am so grateful that I chose to do it.

Doing the work…

Because I’m immersed in doing the work, I’m waiting until I finish the 15 day challenge to talk about everything I’m learning about the creative process. Today I’m focused on completing the challenge and doing the rest of my life at the same time. When the challenge is finished I plan to reflect and share what I’ve learned along the way.

Today I’m sharing the newest photos from the challenge and wishing you a wonderful creative week.

May you walk in beauty.
