in between

Since my trip to Ely last weekend I’ve found it more difficult than usual staying present during my morning meditation sessions. Instead of following the breath I find my mind off on trips of planning, wondering, imagining, and creating. Each time I notice that my mind is wandering I attempt to gently bring my attention back to my breath and again and again the hamster wheel of thoughts in my head spins and spins.

That’s the way we humans are most of the time—either looking ahead or back in time, rehashing old stuff, or imagining future events.

I feel as if I’m living in “In Between Time”—not quite starting out on my time up north and not feeling totally present here in Minneapolis. And each time I am tempted to beat myself up for not being more present, I say to myself, “It’s okay. We are all living in the in between every day, whether we’re aware of it or not.”

All I can do is pause, notice my breath, allow myself to sink in to the present moment if only for a moment.

How about you? Are you living in “In Between” time?

May you walk in beauty.

Beautiful… photo and words. I’m always in between…. never here nor there!

Yep-I tend to live in the in between times. Thanks for the reminder to not beat myself up!
