I found this quote in my reading last night and felt that it was true.

It is a question, practically of relationship. We must get back into relation, vivid nourishing relation to the cosmos and the universe… For the truth is, we are perishing for lack of fulfillment of our greater needs, we are cut off from the great sources of our inward nourishment and renewal, sources which flow eternally in the universe. Vitally, the human race is dying. It is like a great uprooted tree, with its roots in the air. We must plant ourselves again in the universe. — D. H Lawrence, “A Propos of Lady Chatterley’s Lover”

The Way Back…

I too believe that we must “get back into relation” with one another as well as with “the cosmos and the universe” instead of being mostly related to our phones, devices, computers, and things.

One of the changes that began with the industrial revolution and continues in our current digital information revolution is our disconnection from the earth, our bodies, and our selves.

When we are disconnected from our bodies, our selves, one another, and the planet, we lose access to our aliveness. We become numb and stop sensing the violence, suffering, and unnaturalness of daily life. It becomes easy to perpetrate violence on ourselves, other people, animals, and the earth because we are numb to our feelings.

We need to soften our animal bodies and let ourselves feel the pain and the joy and the beauty of this world.

We are all in this together.

Okay—enough. I had no intention to go on at length but feel so strongly that we have lost our way and the way back is through relationship with nature and one another.

May you take a moment today to breathe with awareness, noticing the pleasure and pain of being here now.

May you walk in beauty.

the way back
