IMG_8912Your Life is a Work of Art

This morning when I was driving down Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis I saw a big metal box next to the street that had been covered with a beautiful flower petal design. It made me smile and reminded me of how much I enjoy seeing little gifts of art strewn around the landscape. I couldn’t help stopping and making some photos with my phone.

“To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.” ~Kurt Vonnegut

It also reminded me that I can freely give the gift of art by sharing my unique view of the world through my art. In a sense I can live my life as a work of art.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if we all lived our lives as a work of art? Check out this video of Peter Donnelly, who uses a rake to create sand art that lives for only a short time before the tide washes it away. You can see the joy that he works with and his sense of non-attachment to outcome. For him it’s all about the process I think.

”Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It’s a gift to the world and every being in it. Don’t cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you’ve got.” ~Steven Pressfield
