Fleeting Magic

The cottonwood tree down by the pond bloomed this week. For 3 straight days whenever the breeze blew, it looked like it was snowing in our back yard. On the deck the wind swirled the fluff into a big bouncing ball of fluff and then launched it into the air where the breeze tore it apart and landed fluff on grass and trees. A bunch of fluff blew in the back door of the garage and landed on the carpet by the entryway. It tracked in the house on shoes, coated deck furniture, and floated onto driveway and street.

“I believe the world is incomprehensibly beautiful — an endless prospect of magic and wonder.”
— Ansel Adams

You could see it as a great annoyance OR you could enjoy it’s fleeting magic. I feel a little silly getting so much enjoyment out of an event that used to irritate the heck out me. “What a mess!” I used to complain. This year I’ve been captivated by it. Such a transient event. We had fluff for 3 days this week, floating and falling like snow. Then the rain came yesterday and it’s hard to see where it was. Here and gone in a matter of days.

It was a cottonwood fluff party! A limited engagement not to be repeated for another year!

“I believe in the brief eternity of the rose.”
― Marty Rubin

Life is short

Seasons show us the cycle of new life, growth, decay, and death each year—the transience of beauty, sweetness of new life, bitter-sweet moments of decay and death—inviting us to pay attention and appreciate eternity in each moment.

The older I get, the more I do treasure each moment of the cycles of the seasons (well, maybe not winter so much, but everything else).

“I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.”  ― e.e.cummings

Fleeting Magic

Take some time out to appreciate the fleeting magic that is present in nature every day. Notice the beauty of a single blade of grass. Dance with the breezes just like the flowers and plants do. Soak in the rain. Bask in the sun. Feel the chill of the wind. Experience eternity in a moment.

“I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars.” ― Walt Whitman

May you walk in beauty.
