It’s been a gray week in Minnesota with a little bit of rain and cold temperatures. Although it seems that spring is taking its time arriving, you can see the plants and trees waking up if you look around carefully. The woodlands show small patches of green; wood ducks are swimming in the pond, plants popping out of the ground, and leaves beginning to emerge.

Catching the Magic

It takes slowing down to look closely and letting go of expectations, to catch the magic that is present. Notice the tiny pops of color that are emerging. Savor the early spring smells. Listen to the birds singing in the trees. Even in this in-between time before the greens of spring have fully merged, beauty can be seen.

I am savoring the early spring days, enjoying the mild temperatures, absence of mosquitoes, and slow arrival of spring. The early spring ephemerals will soon pop up, bloom, and fade before the trees have had time to fully leaf out. If you don’t pay attention and spend time wandering the woodlands you will miss their splendid brief beauty.

There is magic in every place, every life, every day. Slow down, spend time in nature, be present, take time for gratitude, and you too, can experience the magic.

Don’t miss the magic. Look closely. It’s all around you waiting for you to notice.

May you walk in beauty.
