May Peace Prevail on Earth
The beautiful prayer below was shared at a Sunday church service by Reverend Ruth MacKenzie. Rev. Ruth traveled to India in January 2015 as a Unitarian human rights witness.
She visited a school, Vidhayak Sansad, where young Dalit girls, who are among the poorest of the poor, were educated. Every morning the girls began their school day by singing this song.
Our Prayer of the DayThis is the dream of my lifeMay it come trueMay the children of human beingsLive with human dignityMay no one sell their bodiesTo quell the pangs of hunger,And may my inner urge ever beTo destroy oppressionMay the flowers yet to bloomNot be trampled underfootMay every breath I takeHelp new flowers to bloomMay I never be weak, vulnerableAnd powerlessMay I find within myselfThe strength to contain stormsThe night that has just passedWas the longest and darkestLet the emerging raysLive forever in the huts of the poorMay those who have no foodAnd no dignity, be my inspirationMay every step I take todayBe in the service of that GodThis is my prayerMay it come trueMay the children of human beingsLive with human dignity.
It brought tears to my eyes imagining girls from age 4 and up who have experienced hunger, loss, oppression, lack of human dignity, singing this every day at the beginning of their school day!
Gratitude for Ordinary Miracles
And it makes me thankful for ALL the blessings in my life, all the ordinary miracles I often take for granted.

Life is a gift worthy of gratitude. Love and light shine out from the most unlikely places.
Today I celebrate the many blessings in my life and send thoughts of light and love especially to the Dalit girls of Vidhayak Sansad.
I give thanks for family, food, shelter, inspiration, doing what I love, beauty, being born a woman in this country and century, and much much more.
