Quote of the day:

“August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away.”

I am participating in Kat Sloma’s Photo-Heart Connection for August:

The idea: At the end of each month, review the images you worked with in that month for the one that gives you the strongest connection to your heart and soul. Write about that connection to the image in a blog post…

I wish I could show you all of my favorite photos for August. It’s such a rewarding exercise, going through my work of the past month and seeing the variety and quantity of photos I have made. I find that I often feel like I should be accomplishing more. Then I see what I have done during a single month and I’m amazed.

This is my third month of participating and still, it surprises, and reminds me of why I do this work. I LOVE seeing the images I’ve captured. I love noticing beauty and creating images to share that beauty with others.

I chose the photo above for my photo-heart connection for August. With soft summer flowers, a goldfinch in all its bright yellow and black glory, and a monarch butterfly flitting by, this shot epitomizes August. When I view the photo with a critical eye, I think that it’s not outstanding technically. But the photo always speaks volumes to me none-the-less.

It reminds me of sweet summer days, birds on the wing, butterflies fluttering, dragonflies swooping low over the pond, days shortening, breezes blowing, the first hints of fall, garden harvests, children running and playing in the twilight, open-window weather, fairs, canoeing, outdoor concerts, bike rides, campfires, hiking in the woods, and more.

It seems only yesterday that I greeted the beginning of August and realized that once again summer was almost over. And now, here we are in September. I am savoring these warm, blue-sky, golden-light days. How about you? Did your summer fly by in the blink of an eye?

Remember to savor every day and find beauty in everything you do. Life flies by so quickly!

Another butterfly to enjoy

Such a beautiful image and I love what you wrote! And, yes, for me summer did fly by way to quickly. I appreciate how photography helps me savor a moment, enjoy the view, and just take it all in.

Yes, photography has increased my minute by minute and day by day appreciation, gratitude, and happiness so much!

Beautiful! I don’t know how you managed to get those flowers, a goldfinch, AND a butterfly all in one frame. You really have collected “summer” in that one photo.

Thanks! It was (as always) luck and a telephoto lens. I was going for the goldfinch amongst the flowers when the butterfly happened to flutter into the frame.

your pic did capture the brighter lighter side of Summer.. thank you for sharing and enjoying sharing your pictures with us.

That picture definitely captures summer! I love the motion of the butterfly, it seems to capture a liveliness, maybe the liveliness of summer, that would not otherwise come through with the flowers. I am so glad you find this process rewarding. I am happy to have you in the Photo-Heart connection!
