Quote of the day: “What really matters, is that you do what lights you up, brings you joy, and you are passionate about. Forget about looking outside yourself to find purpose and meaning. Following feelings of joy, passion, and play are the compass points that will lead you to what matters most, to your own true north.” — Me

Off the beaten path

Sometimes I think too much. This morning as I found myself frustrated and perplexed with thoughts of purpose and meaning, being and doing, and how to find flow and move while not pushing too hard.

Creating a business, creating a work of art, creating anything requires discipline, courage, and focus. It also requires listening, feeling, and being in the flow. But finding when to listen and rest versus when to move is difficult for me. I am uncomfortable with fallow times where it seems as if nothing is happening. I want to shake things up and go out and do something, anything. But I have also learned that when I push too hard, nothing positive happens. My work, my direction needs to come from a place of joy, play, and passion. Otherwise, there’s something missing from it.

After thinking in circles and getting nowhere, I finally stopped thinking, grabbed my point and shoot camera and got on my bike. Moving my body, being out in nature, feeling the sun and wind in my face always helps clear my mind.  I rode beside Medicine Lake, watching people and boats, ducks and scenery, trees and wildflowers, docks and lake scenes.

When I came back, I sat down and wrote my own Quote of the day.  Moving my body doing something I enjoy helps me find flow and come back to creating with a fresh outlook and new ideas. How about you? When you get stuck in a thinking rut, how do you get out of it?

I took all of the photos in this post with my little point-and-shoot camera, while out for my morning bike ride.

Peeling bark (looks like the tree is excavating to find its true self)
