Quote of the day: “I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but three summer days – three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.”

Lilies from Farmer’s Market

Summer days are here. Farmers markets are full of wonderful summer vegetables. Summer flowers are in bloom everywhere I look. And the hot days make me feel like taking a nap or reading a book.

Yesterday, I got up early and went to Mill City Farmer’s Market (my favorite for lots of organic produce stands). When I arrived at the market I noticed a vendor selling lovely summer flowers by the stem. I promised myself that I would buy some flowers on my way back to the car if I had any money left over after shopping for fresh vegetables. As luck would have it I had $3 cash left from the money I’d budgeted for the market. Profligate that I am, I spent that cash on 1 bright yellow calla lily and 2 stems of orange-red lilies.

Those few flowers have provided me with endless joy today. I photographed them with my macro lens and just enjoying their colors and shapes every time I walk by them. And then there’s the summer salad made from some of the fresh fixings I found at the market—mmmmm…. I love lazy summer Sundays. What’s your favorite way to spend hot summer Sundays?
